Sparrow Crane Hire: From analogue phones to VoIP, with a leased line and failover

Sparrow Crane Hire provides crane hire 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with a full range of cranes, ancillary equipment and personnel. The business depends on clear, reliable communication between office staff, customers and teams working across different sites.

The challenge

Sparrow Crane Hire was using an analogue private branch exchange (PBX) phone system, and recognised that analogue phone lines were being phased out.

It wanted a future-proof replacement that would improve call reliability, reduce disruption and support flexible working, so that staff could communicate effectively from the office, remotely or while coordinating work on site. A key requirement was backup failover connectivity, to reduce the risk of downtime and improve overall resilience.

The company also wanted a communications partner that could give practical advice and responsive support.

What we did

We designed and installed a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phone system and new connectivity, built around how Sparrow Crane Hire operates. Placeholder: number of users and when the project took place (Q23)

The project included:

• a dedicated leased line, giving the business reliable, business-grade connectivity
• a backup failover connection that keeps services running if the leased line is unavailable

• ongoing support from our team now that the project is complete

The result

Sparrow Crane Hire now has a more dependable and flexible communications set-up. The leased line provides a strong primary connection, and the failover helps the business stay connected if that main service is interrupted.

Call handling has improved, and office teams, mobile staff and people working on site stay connected. Staff have more flexibility to manage calls from different locations, and stronger connectivity supports customer service and the coordination of work across the business.

With voice and connectivity from a single service partner, communications are simpler to manage, and the platform can support the business as it grows.
